  • Important to know these facts:

    • Vasectomy is a simple highly effective and safe minor surgical operation for elective male sterilisation
    • Vasectomy may be carried out at GP surgery under local anaesthetic (We have dedicated Operation theatres at 2 premises) Procedure itself takes 15 minutes or less and return to usual activity is mostly within a week.
    • Vasectomy should be considered by couples who have completed their family and make a decision of permanant contraception. Some men may not be suitable for Vasectomy, particularly if either partner is under 25 yrs of age. Unexpected circumstances in future such as new partner or survival of existing children must be considered carefully
    • Reversal of Vasectomy may be possible but only in exceptional circumstances and its success rate is very poor
    • Vasectomy may fail rarely (less than 1 %) and is not effective immediately after the operation. Other contraception must continue until advised by the surgeon after semen analysis, usually about 3 months post-operatively.
    • Vasectomy usually has much less complications than female sterilisation
    • Vasectomy does not alter sexual potency of males. In fact it may improve relationship between partners by minimising the risk of unwanted pregnancy. Sexual intercourse and climax remain as before, only semen does not contain sperms
    • Vasectomy can be performed by more than one techniques. The method followed depends on individual surgeon’s choice, although there may be benefits of one technique over the other. We use ‘No scalpel Vasectomy’ technique, usually called as NSV. We believe that this method has definite benefits over conventional methods because of less complications. This is now becoming a preferred method in UK and worldwide, by the Surgeons as well as the patients.
    • Like any other surgical operation, Vasectomy has possible post-operative complications, but these are rare and are easily treatable
  • You will have to sign a consent form to agree for the procedure. To view a sample copy of the consent form, click here
